Dear Dr. Spivey:
The pamphlet on A CHAIR OF DEMOCRACY, and two
tickets for the lecture by Frank Lloyd Wright reached me too
late to return the tickets before Friday night. Therefore I
have not sent an acknowledgment of appreciation sooner.
I have read the pamphlet with much interest, and feel
that it is quite as important to have the philosophy of Democracy deeply instilled into our youth, as it is to wage
war to defeat totalitarianism; and I congratulate you on your
work in this field.
It was a great disappointment to me not to be able to
attend the lecture. I have not had the good fortune to meet
Mr. Wright personally, but I am much interested in his work
and feel in fairly close touch with him through his sister,
Mrs. Porter whom I have met in Winter Park, and through my
intimate friend of long standing, Henry Russell Hitchcock,
with whom I have discussed your new chapel at great length.
I have also seen the chapel myself, though not after completion.
If it had not been for the gasoline rationing and tire shortage, I should have been present. This of course is a matter
entirely beyond the control of any of us.
I wish to thank you, however, for the courtesy that your
college has extended to me, and hope that at some future time
I may be able to attend some other interesting lecture there.
Yours sincerely
GEORGE CAMP KEISER
